The body of José Alberto Campo Cruz, a 65-year-old Cuban who had been missing since January 3 in the municipality of Morón, Ciego de Ávila, has reportedly been found.
"According to the person who has been informing me from the site, José Alberto's body has finally been found, putting an end to weeks of searching and anguish for family and friends," reported activist Irma Broek on Facebook, who has been following the case since his disappearance was reported.
The cited source specified that the body was found in "the yard of the house of the confessed murderer, who, along with two other men, took his life on the same day he went missing."
Previously, it emerged that a man had reportedly confessed to his involvement in the crime, stating that he acted alongside two other accomplices.
According to the alleged killer's version, the victim was riding his bicycle back from an event at a school when he passed by his house. At that moment, he was invited to have a drink, and once in the yard of the house, a discussion arose related to a check issue.
The tension escalated until, in a fit of rage, the attacker struck Campo Cruz with a machete, taking his life. Later, with the help of the other two individuals involved, they disposed of the body.
In a photograph shared by sources, the house of the alleged aggressor was marked in red, while the search area was highlighted in blue and yellow.
Campo Cruz was a geography teacher, a methodologist, and also held positions as the party secretary. He served as a delegate for over 40 years and was a judge in the city courts, as his daughter previously reported on social media when raising the alarm about his disappearance.
As often happens in these cases, some internet users have even expressed joy at the man's death, something that has been condemned by some residents of Morón.
"No one has the right to take anyone's life. Yes, he had all the charges against him, but he didn't get involved in politics or anything like that, and he helped anyone in need. He was a human being and a person, and he had a daughter and grandchildren," a commenter reprimanded.
Since January 24th, Elien Campos, daughter of José Alberto Campos Cruz, has made several posts on Facebook asking for help to locate her father.
"My father, José Alberto Campos Cruz, 65 years old, known by many in Morón, disappeared on January 3. After participating in an event with friends, he was heading back home on the stretch of the Patria road, between the Rafaela bridge and Carlos Lens, where he resides, when he disappeared," he wrote in his initial plea for help to locate his father.
On February 21, her desperation grew, and in another post, she called for greater support from the community and the authorities to intensify the search
"Dad, I will do whatever it takes, no matter the cost, to find you. It can't be that someone disappears in such a small town without a trace. I need more support from the authorities and, as your daughter, if I don't find answers, I will go wherever I have to go, but I won't settle for the fact that there's no trace. Help me make this post go viral. I am a desperate daughter trying to find my dad, a principled man, a revolutionary, who has given everything for this country. Help!" she wrote.
