The nationwide blackout in Cuba leaves the general population in the dark, but not the hotels

This is the fourth nationwide blackout Cuba has experienced in less than six months, reflecting the deep energy crisis the country is going through.

A massive blackout left Cuba in the dark on Friday night. The Ministry of Energy and Mines reported that a breakdown at the Diezmero substation, located on the outskirts of Havana, caused a significant loss of generation in the western part of the country, leading to the collapse of the National Electric System (SEN).

However, while the neighborhoods in Havana remained without electricity, it was observed that several hotels and tourist areas continued to be lit.

A report published by the independent outlet CubaNet revealed that despite the power outages experienced by the island's citizens, tourist facilities continued to receive electricity.

In one of the published videos, the hotel Iberostar Selection La Habana can be seen fully lit, popularly known as the controversial Torre K, which was recently inaugurated.

Moreover, a reporter from CubaNet highlighted the conditions of nightlife in Havana. "As has been reported regarding Cuba, that Cuba over there (completely in the dark), the Cuba in which they invest money, which is the tourist Cuba, as you can see, is well-lit."

The images shared by this communicator were from the vicinity of the Gran Manzana Kempinski and Inglaterra hotels.

The Ministry of Tourism (MINTUR) assured that the Cuban tourism system has a solid energy backup that guarantees the continuous operation of hotels, non-hotel facilities, and related services.

This is the fourth nationwide blackout that Cuba has experienced in less than six months, reflecting the profound energy crisis facing the country. The main causes of this situation include a lack of maintenance in thermal power plants, fuel shortages, and outdated electrical infrastructure.

Authorities have assured that they are working on restoring the electrical service, but they have not provided a clear timeline for full restoration. Meanwhile, the population continues to face difficulties resulting from the recurrent blackouts, which impact daily life and essential services
