A medical team in Cuba that was performing surgery on Friday night was caught off guard by the general blackout, and despite not having power, they decided to continue with the operation, which was successfully completed.

The feat, which reflects the commitment and professionalism of the medical staff, took place at the Dr. Gustavo Aldereguía Lima Provincial Teaching Hospital in Cienfuegos.

During the surgical procedure, the specialists had to improvise and rely on their ingenuity and determination; thus, using flashlights and cell phones, they continued operating in the dark operating room.

The information was shared on Facebook by the user "Las Cosas de Fernanda," who is aligned with the government.

The note does not explain why a provincial hospital lacks a facility to provide power during a blackout.

If that were the case, doctors—no matter how selfless and dedicated they may be—would not have to resort to these types of "solutions" to ensure the proper care of their patients.

This did not go unnoticed by the readers of the publication.

"We're in such bad shape that the provincial hospital doesn't even have a generator," noted a self-employed worker.

"Undoubtedly, they are brilliant professionals, but having to work like this, under wartime conditions, is a true shame," expressed a young woman.

"If by chance things go wrong, instead of being heroes they would be villains, and facing a huge problem due to negligence. It’s true, they took a risk and succeeded. But what if they hadn’t?" reflected a man for whom the news highlights the poor performance of the government. "Their hospitals don’t even have the bare essentials to keep you alive; thank goodness those doctors were there, otherwise the headline would be very different."

The images show that the doctors and nurses are very young, something that also touched many people.
