The singer-songwriter Descemer Bueno criticized the immigration policies of the United States and expressed his support for Republican Senator Marco Rubio, whom he regarded as the "hope of the Cubans" with I-220A.

In a comment posted on Facebook in response to a news article from CiberCuba about a mother from the island detained by ICE with an I-220A, Bueno expressed regret over the situation of Cuban immigrants in the U.S. and pointed out that Republicans have proven to be "more communist than the Democrats themselves" by allowing the deportations of those fleeing the regime in Havana.

"How hard it is to flee from hell only to be deported here in the land of dreams. Precisely the Republicans, who leave much to be desired, are more communist than the Democrats themselves. Now I have no doubt that those who uphold communism are them—the government of the United States—since they save billions at the maritime borders, which the communist government of Cuba protects for free, paying those indoctrinated kids from the Mandatory Military Service a mere 7 miserable Cuban pesos," wrote the artist.

Bueno assured that "Marco Rubio is the only hope" for Cubans, but noted that his influence is limited: "A great man, a great person whom I had the honor to meet, but they have him with his hands tied. God save you, Marcos," he concluded.

The singer's comment sparked a wave of reactions among the Cuban community in the U.S., with some expressing their support.

A user identified as Deni García responded that the Democrats are the ones who have truly opened the doors to Cuban immigrants:

"Finally, many Cubans in this country and in Cuba are realizing that we are in the U.S. not thanks to the Republicans, and certainly not because of Trump, who has always been a racist against Latino immigrants. We are in this country thanks to the Democrats, who have opened the doors for us. Trump is a racist even towards Puerto Ricans, who are American citizens," he wrote.

On the other hand, some of Bueno's followers praised his courage in addressing the difficult situation of Cubans with I-220A, a document that has created legal uncertainty for many immigrants in the U.S.

"I wish more voices of Cuban artists would rise to support the I-220A; no one knows the suffering we endured back there and now here," commented another user.

The immigration issue remains a point of controversy within the Cuban community in the U.S., especially in a context where thousands of Cubans have faced difficulties in regularizing their immigration status.
