Viva Aerobús launches air route from Tapachula to Havana

A flight between Tapachula, in southern Mexico, and Havana has been announced, expanding the air connectivity options between the two countries.

The route, which will be operated by the airline Viva Aerobús starting April 1, will facilitate the transfer of passengers between that border city, located in the state of Chiapas, and the Caribbean island, with a stop in the city of Monterrey, in the northern part of the country.

The director of the travel agency Vuela, Jorge Alfredo Gálvez Sánchez, highlighted in the independent media Cuarto Poder that this new route responds to the growth of the Cuban community in Tapachula over the past six years and to the tourism interest of Mexicans in Havana.

Additionally, he emphasized that the Tapachula International Airport has established itself as the most important airport terminal on the southern border, also serving Guatemalan travelers.

The Tapachula-Cuba route will operate three times a week, providing passengers with more travel options and fostering economic development and connectivity in the region.

This announcement is part of efforts to expand air connectivity from Tapachula. Recently, flights to Cancún have been arranged, and historical mobility figures have been recorded at the local airport, reflecting a positive trend in the tourism and service sectors in the region.
