Cuban citizens lamented on social media the passing of a renowned Cuban doctor from Baracoa, a specialist in allergology.

Ana Rita Fernández Matos passed away in the early hours of March 30 in Havana for reasons that have not yet been disclosed, as stated by the official journalist Miguel Reyes Mendoza on his Facebook profile.

The doctor, a first-degree specialist in Comprehensive General Medicine and Allergology and a master's degree holder in Child Care, served as an assistant professor and worked for many years at the Hermanos Martínez Tamayo Polyclinic in Baracoa.

"An excellent human being, a great professional, but above all things, he was a person very beloved by everyone," wrote the official reporter.

Fernández Matos is the author of dozens of scientific articles on the risk of asthma in children and other conditions.

Hundreds of people shocked and surprised by Fernández's death shared their anguish in comments over the loss of the doctor.

"How can I describe her? She was always with us, her colleagues in the Specialty. I feel this pain deep in my heart and her family knows it. Even though she wasn’t in Baracoa, we always kept in touch. Rest in peace my dear colleague," wrote an internet user.

People like you should live for centuries, when we received the news we hoped someone would deny it, wishing it was a mistake, but it wasn't, my amazing doctor, from my family, from my child, from all the people who knew you. Fly high, my dear, and rest in peace," lamented another Cuban.

It has left me bewildered... my dear friend. Rest in peace, beloved friend Ana Rita. May God lead you to eternal rest and may the eternal light always shine upon you. My condolences to her family, her husband Tony, and her children. I am truly, truly sorry.

Those who knew her noted that she was a good friend and an excellent professional: "Always cheerful and unwavering."
