With great pride, a Cuban shared her life testimony on social media: she arrived in the United States 15 years ago with not a cent to her name, and today she celebrates having achieved the stability she longed for, her American dream.
The TikTok profile (@510famosotv) shared the testimony of a woman, who recounted how she arrived in the country with not a cent to her name and, through hard work and faith, achieved a level of stability that she claims she would never have attained in Cuba.
"I arrived here 15 years ago, by the grace of God and my father, who was a U.S. citizen and brought me. I had zero dollars, my friend," he said.
When asked if the United States was what she expected, she candidly responded: “I had some broader expectations, but I truly realized that the sacrifice I would have to endure was greater. But well, I am grateful to this great country for the opportunity it has given me.”
The woman, originally from Cerro in Havana, stated that her faith has been essential for her to stay strong: “Faith is the only thing that enables a human being to move forward. Having faith in God is the greatest thing one can possess in this universe.”
With emotion, she shared that she raised her son alone, managed to provide him with a good education, and today he is a respectable man: "I wasn't fortunate enough to have a partner, but I achieved much more than I ever could have in Cuba. Today I have stability, thank God," she stated proudly.
When asked what she would do if she were in Havana right now, she replied without hesitation: “I would be tormented, because there are many economic difficulties there, blackouts, and a lack of hope. Here I have faith, I have goals.”
The woman also shared a piece of advice for the new generations of migrants, especially for young women arriving in the United States: “Focus on yourselves, choose a career that allows you to be self-sufficient, earn your own money, and don’t wait for anyone to give you anything.”
Finally, he left a message for those who dream of working as barbers or stylists in the United States: "Dive right in, study, obtain your licenses, and learn something new every day. You will never regret being a barber."
Before saying goodbye, he reiterated what he misses most about Cuba: his family. But he also expressed what he values most today: the opportunity that the United States has given him to start anew.
In recent months, the TikTok user 510FamosoTV has captured the attention of thousands by showcasing interviews with people living in the United States to find out whether they have achieved the so-called American dream.
Among those interviewed, four Cubans stand out who preferred to remain anonymous, but they all agreed on a clear and firm piece of advice for newcomers: "Get to work."
