This concentration of seismic movements is mainly related to the aftershocks of the strong earthquake that occurred at the end of the previous year.
The area with the highest number of earthquakes was the one between Pilón (Granma) and Chivirico (Santiago de Cuba), with a total of 696 quakes.
This figure mostly corresponds to aftershocks of the magnitude 6.7 earthquake recorded on November 10, 2024.
The areas of Pilón-Chivirico and Cabo Cruz were also the most energetic, meaning those where a greater amount of seismic energy was released.
It is important to note that during this quarter, no earthquakes of magnitude 4.0 or higher were recorded in the national territory or its surroundings, indicating that despite the high frequency of events, their intensity remained within moderate ranges.
