Lilian Rebecca Goodman, a 27-year-old resident of Miami, has been formally charged with six criminal offenses, including armed robbery, following a violent incident at her ex-boyfriend's apartment.
The incident, which took place on April 1st, has drawn attention due to the brutality of the attack and the amount stolen, which amounted to thousands of dollars in personal belongings.
According to authorities, the incident occurred when the victim stepped out of their apartment for a short period, leaving the door unsecured.
It was at that moment that Goodman entered the property without consent, and after a discussion with her ex-boyfriend, the conflict quickly escalated to become violent.
Goodman, who had been in a relationship with the victim for only two months, demanded $2000 at that moment, claiming that he needed to pay his rent.
The man's refusal to hand over the money triggered a series of threats from the woman.
According to the victim -quoted by America Tevé- Goodman warned her: “You don't know what I can do to you.”
Aggression and destruction: The physical attack inside the apartment
The incident took an even more dangerous turn when Goodman was accompanied inside the apartment by a second individual, a man whose identity has not yet been revealed by the police.
According to Mike Vega, spokesperson for the Miami Police Department, the two acted with violence and premeditation.
"She continued to make threats, and a man who was with her entered the apartment, snatched the victim's phone, and began kicking him. While he was on the floor, she grabbed a bat and started breaking things in the apartment. Then the man and the woman went into the bedroom and began taking electronics valued at over $4,000," Vega detailed.
The destruction inside the home included several personal items belonging to the man, although the looting focused on high-value electronic devices.
The level of aggression displayed by both individuals revealed, according to the investigators, a clear intention to intimidate and cause harm.
Attempted escape and serious medical consequences
In a desperate attempt to seek help, the victim managed to escape the apartment during the attack.
However, while descending the stairs of the building, she fell and suffered a serious ankle injury. Despite the pain, she managed to reach the lower level of the building to seek help.
"Despite all that, he managed to descend 10 floors to request that the police be called. He was taken to the hospital, where he had to undergo surgery due to serious injuries," explained the police spokesperson.
The man underwent surgery and had two screws placed in his right foot. According to the medical report, he will not be able to walk for at least three months and will require a rehabilitation process lasting six months.
Legal situation of the involved parties
Lilian Rebecca Goodman was arrested after being identified as responsible for the attack.
In her appearance before the court this Thursday, Judge Mindy S. Glazer denied him bail and ordered him to stay away from the victim as a preventive measure.
