Two masked men stole two mobile educational kitchens from the Feeding South Florida warehouse in Pembroke Park last Sunday, a theft that represents a severe blow to the community programs of the charity at a critical time for food security in the region.

The surveillance cameras captured the moment when a white pickup truck backed into the food bank's loading dock. Two individuals with their faces covered —one wearing an orange vest and the other dressed in dark clothing— opened the trailer where the units were stored, dismantled them piece by piece, and loaded them into the vehicle before fleeing the scene.

The stolen kitchens, valued at $15,000 each, were part of the Kitchen à la Cart™ program, a mobile educational initiative by Feeding South Florida that brings hands-on cooking classes to vulnerable communities, senior centers, and community events. In addition to the main equipment, the criminals also took small appliances used in the demonstrations, such as blenders.

"My initial reaction was one of anger," declared Paco Vélez, president and CEO of the organization. "We bring these kitchens to community centers to teach older adults how to cook healthily and manage chronic diseases like diabetes or cardiovascular diseases."

Feeding South Florida serves more than two million people facing food insecurity in South Florida. The loss of these mobile units directly impacts the organization's ability to provide its services at a time when, according to their estimates, approximately 2.1 million residents are struggling to access food.

"If anyone sees our kitchen equipment, please contact us. We would be glad to retrieve it," Vélez requested. "If those who took it need help with food or accommodation, we are here to support them, but that equipment is essential for the health and well-being of many families."

The Pembroke Park Police have opened an investigation into the case. Feeding South Florida is also requesting the public’s assistance. Anyone with information can contact the organization at (954) 518-1857 or call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. Reports can be made anonymously and may be eligible for a reward of up to $5,000. The stolen kitchens were scheduled to be used in upcoming community events.
