"Dr. C. Armando Caballero López has passed away in Havana during a final stage in which his health was compromised. And although he could not win his last battle, he will depart immense, as he demonstrated until his last day," the hospital shared in a message.
The Provincial Health Directorate of Villa Clara paid tribute to the distinguished specialist, whom they described as “an exceptional doctor, an admirable human being, and a fundamental pillar” of the province's main hospital.
"His passing leaves an immense void in our lives and in the community that he loved and served so dearly," they expressed in a condolence note shared on social media.
"He felt like a campesino, much like that little boy from Seibabo who arrived in Santa Clara one day at just five years old," the hospital recounted, evoking his humble roots and the influence of his grandfather, who gifted him a book that sparked his interest in health from a young age.

"He knew how to listen, understood others' pain, and always found the right words to offer comfort and hope," his colleagues added.
In addition to his outstanding clinical work, Dr. Caballero was an academic and ethical role model for many young doctors who found in him a source of inspiration.
"It taught us that being a doctor goes beyond diagnosing and treating illnesses; it's about caring, connecting with people, and making a difference in their lives," emphasizes the institutional statement.
The legacy of Dr. Armando Caballero will live on, they assure, in the halls of the hospital that was his second home, "in every story of recovery and in every smile of gratitude."
The leader Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez expressed his condolences for the passing from Moscow, where he is on an official visit. “Upon arriving in #Russia, we learned the sad news of the passing of Doctor Armando Caballero, an eminent intensivist, very beloved and admired, a man who devoted his life to saving the lives of others.
