Cuban illegal immigrant arrested in the U.S. with an alarming criminal history

The Cuban immigrant, arrested by the Border Patrol in New Mexico, has an extensive criminal history that includes murder, negligent homicide, shooting from a motor vehicle, and evidence tampering, among other offenses.

A Cuban citizen residing illegally in the United States was arrested in New Mexico last week, after a background check by agents at a Border Patrol checkpoint (USBP) revealed his concerning criminal history and a final deportation order against him.

The individual, whose name was not disclosed, presented himself at a USBP checkpoint "as if nothing happened" on April 29, revealed the chief of the U.S. Border Patrol, Michael W. Banks, on the agency's official account on the social media platform X, along with a photograph of the detainee.

The Cuban has an alarming and extensive criminal record that includes murder, negligent homicide, shooting from a motor vehicle, tampering with evidence, possession of a controlled substance, and carrying a prohibited weapon, according to the authorities.

To his serious offenses is added a final order of expulsion, which means he now faces penalties related to deportation under article 8 USC 1253 (of the Immigration and Nationality Act - INA), Banks clarified.

"This detention highlights the crucial role that checkpoints play in keeping our communities safe from violent criminals," emphasized the head of the USBP.

The U.S. Border Patrol, in conjunction with other federal and state agencies, has intensified efforts to detect and apprehend illegal immigrants and those with criminal records at the country's borders and highways.

During the first 100 days of his second term, President Donald Trump has fulfilled his campaign promises to take a hardline approach against illegal immigration.

Its escalation has resulted in the arrest of 66,463 immigrants during this period, of which 75% have criminal records, according to the statistics published by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Of that total, 2,288 are suspected gang members from organizations such as Tren de Aragua, MS-13, and Barrio 18; while 1,329 individuals are charged or convicted of sexual offenses, and 498 for murder.

The federal agency confirmed the deportation of 65,682 undocumented foreigners, including “criminals who threaten public and national security.”

Trump aims to deport one million undocumented immigrants in his first year of office. The announced goal has sparked criticism and uncertainty among analysts and immigration experts, who consider it nearly impossible to achieve due to a lack of resources and legal obstacles.
