Man in Cienfuegos Reported for Sexual Abuse and Animal Murder: Animal Activists Demand Justice

Animal rights activists and defenders in Cuba have publicly denounced a new case of extreme animal cruelty that, they claim, has been occurring in Cienfuegos for some time without an effective response from the authorities.

The activist Yenney Caballero reported the incident through her profile on Facebook, where she identified the alleged perpetrator as Yordenis Miguel Torre, a resident of the La Juanita neighborhood, claiming that this man has committed repeated acts of sexual abuse, maltreatment, and animal killings within a room at the back of his home.

Caballero explained that this would be the second time a formal complaint has been filed through the appropriate channels, but so far, no decisive action has been taken.

He also pointed out that the accused instills fear among the neighbors and his own family, as he allegedly walks around armed with a machete.

"It is a horror movie what the neighboring residents are experiencing. The screams of pain from the animals and the stench of decomposing bodies have everyone very distressed," wrote the activist, who demanded justice and requested that their possible admission to a psychiatric facility be considered if mental disorders are confirmed.

The case has reignited the demand from Cuban animal rights activists, who are calling for greater legal protection and institutional action in response to such incidents.

"We will not tolerate any more living beings dying at the hands of this murderer," Caballero expressed.

In a case update, the user identified as Rosa Martínez shared a message on her Facebook profile this Sunday, warning that the accused poses a danger not only to animals but also to the community.

According to him, neighbors and individuals committed to the cause have decided to monitor his movements and demand accountability from the family of the accused, whom he accuses of being complicit due to their inaction despite being aware of the facts since 2022.

Martínez claims that the man acts violently, carries a weapon, and has repeatedly committed acts of abuse and neglect against animals, particularly females, who are kidnapped, mistreated, and left without food or care.

The activist also reported that a foul smell and the presence of scavenging birds are noticeable around the house, indicating the severity of the situation.

"Today it was a little girl, tomorrow it could be a boy or a young woman," he warned in his message, urging the public to stay vigilant, to report incidents, and to ensure that the case does not go unpunished.

It assures that the monitoring will continue until the accused faces justice.

In a recent post, Martínez stated that the accused left on Saturday night with a backpack in which, according to witnesses, something that appeared to be an animal was moving.

He indicated that the individual was seen wearing a hooded sweater and was alerted by people who were monitoring him.

Martínez harshly criticized the authorities for their lack of action, accusing them of tolerance and inaction in a case that, he stated, endangers not only animals but also vulnerable individuals, including his own family: "Neighbors, be careful. Tomorrow it could be your daughter, granddaughter, or niece who becomes a victim, because this is a maniac," he warned.

In Cuba, cases of animal cruelty not only occur with alarming frequency, but also reveal a sustained impunity due to institutional inaction.
