The PCC has removed its third provincial First Secretary in 2025

The Communist Party of Cuba dismissed Yuniasky Crespo Baquero in Mayabeque and appointed Edelso Ramos Linares. This change adds to several recent dismissals, reflecting the internal instability of the PCC.

The Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in Mayabeque dismissed Yuniasky Crespo Baquero from her position as first secretary and appointed Edelso Antonio Ramos Linares in her place, who previously served as the deputy head of the Cadre Policy Department in the Central Committee of the regime's organization.

The news was confirmed this Friday by the official Cuban press, which did not disclose the reasons for the dismissal. They only noted that Crespo Baquero will take on "new responsibilities."

According to the note, the decision for the "removal from office" was made during the session chaired by the Secretary of Organization of the Communist Party, Roberto Morales. With Crespo's removal, there have now been three dismissals of first secretaries of the PCC this year.

The newly appointed first secretary, Edelso Antonio Ramos Linares, 51 years old, previously served as the deputy head of the Cadre Policy Department in the Central Committee of the PCC and holds a degree in Education, specializing in Marxism, Leninism, and History.

Ramos Linares has worked as an instructor, a member of the bureau, and the first secretary of the Municipal Committee of the PCC. He also oversaw the political-ideological activities in the Provincial Committee of Pinar del Río for more than three years.

Crespo joins a long list of dismissals within the ranks of the only permitted party in Cuba.

In March, the secretary of the PCC in the province of Las Tunas, Walter Simón Noris, was removed from his position after less than a year in office.

In his place, a official with experience in municipal Party Secretary positions for the Communist Party in Trinidad, Sancti Spíritus, and Isla de la Juventud was appointed.

In February, the Communist Party of Cuba in Cienfuegos expelled two leaders for "errors and attitude issues."

The Plenary of the Provincial Committee decided to remove José López Zuñet from his position and from the ranks of the organization, who served as a member of its Executive Bureau, due to "attitude problems regarding the tasks assigned to him."

For its part, the Plenary of the Municipal Committee in Rodas took identical measures against Mayré Fornaris Soriano, who was serving as the first secretary in that territory, due to "errors made in the performance of her duties" that affected the control of various organizational processes.

The expulsion of leaders from the Communist Party in Cuba reflects an attempt by the regime to show that it is taking measures against inefficiency and corruption.

However, the lack of transparency and details in the dismissal processes generates distrust among the population, which perceives these actions as insufficient to address the country's systemic issues.
