The Kremlin's response to Trump after the U.S. president's attack on Putin

The Russian government has responded to Trump's angry remarks against Putin.

The Kremlin responded this Monday to the recent statements made by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who claimed that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, “has completely lost his mind” following the massive Russian airstrikes against Ukraine.

During his usual telephone press conference, the presidential spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, downplayed the impact of Trump's statements, attributing them to a moment of heightened international tension.

The Russian government downplayed the words of the American leader, describing the statements as an "emotional reaction" in a context it characterized as laden with tension and critical decisions regarding national security.

“Of course, the start of the negotiation process, for which the American side made a significant effort, is a very important achievement and we are truly grateful to the Americans and personally to President Trump for his help in organizing and launching this negotiation process,” Peskov said, in statements quoted by the agency Efe.

"It is a very important achievement. At the same time, of course, this is a very significant moment that is connected to an emotional overload for everyone involved and emotional reactions," he added.

Moscow justifies its attacks and blames Ukraine

In a strong defense of Russian military policy, Peskov justified the recent bombings, assuring that they were a response to Ukrainian threats and previous hostile acts.

According to the Kremlin, the recent Russian attacks were a defensive measure following warnings from Ukraine regarding foreign dignitaries attending the Victory Day parade in Moscow.

"We carefully monitor all reactions. However, President Putin makes the decisions that are necessary for the security of our country," affirmed the Russian politician.

"Many leaders who were here witnessed the Kyiv regime's attempts to attack Russian territory with drones, major cities, even the capital, on the eve of such an important day," he added.

"Those attempts continue. We are obliged to take action, and President Putin is doing what is necessary to ensure the security of Russia," Peskov insisted.

An unprecedented attack

This Sunday, Russia launched 355 drones and nine missiles against Ukraine, marking the largest airstrike recorded since the beginning of the conflict, according to sources from the Ukrainian Air Force.

Russia, for its part, claimed to have intercepted 96 Ukrainian drones over 12 regions of the country, including six in Moscow.

"We have seen how the Ukrainians have been hitting our social infrastructure, peaceful infrastructure," the Kremlin spokesperson also stated, clarifying that the Russian targets were "military facilities, military objectives."

Trump on Putin: "He has gone completely crazy."

Previously, the President of the United States launched a strong verbal attack against his Russian counterpart, Vladímir Putin.

After the deadliest bombing since the war in Ukraine began, Trump broke his silence with a statement filled with outrage: "He has gone completely crazy."

The statement, published on his platform Truth Social, marked a drastic shift in the stance of the U.S. president, who for years has maintained a cordial relationship with the leader of the Kremlin.

"I have always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin of Russia, but something has happened to him. He has gone completely CRAZY!", wrote Trump, visibly disturbed by the magnitude of the Russian attack, which resulted in at least 12 fatalities - including three children - and dozens of injuries.

The president was particularly affected by the indiscriminate nature of the attacks.

“It is unnecessarily killing a lot of people, and I am not referring only to soldiers. Missiles and drones are being launched against cities in Ukraine for no reason,” he criticized.

“I have always said that he wants ALL of Ukraine, not just a part, and maybe that is proving to be true. But if he tries, that will lead to the downfall of Russia!”, he warned.

Broken conversations and sanctions on the horizon

The outburst from Trump came at a particularly delicate moment. Just days before, he had a two-hour phone call with Putin to discuss a potential ceasefire, an initiative supported by the United States.

Even so, the Russian attack occurred during the hostage exchange day, which for Trump represents a contradiction that exacerbates the crisis and discredits any diplomatic efforts.

Not only was Putin the target of criticism in Trump's message, but he also lashed out at the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, for what he considers counterproductive rhetoric amid the ongoing war.

"In the same way, President Zelenski is not doing his country any favors with the way he speaks. Everything he says causes problems. I don't like it, and he'd better stop," he commented.

The American leader questioned whether Zelensky's calls for a stronger reaction from the West are raising tensions.

Trump's speech also targeted his successor in the White House, Joe Biden, whom he directly blames for the escalation of the conflict. He insists that under his presidency the war would never have broken out, and that now his role is to attempt to contain chaos generated by others.

Peace talks remain stalled. Moscow controls approximately 20% of Ukrainian territory, including Crimea, and violence has escalated with massive attacks that have put several cities at risk.
