The Council of State of Cuba announced this Tuesday, via the Official Extraordinary Gazette No. 28, the dismissal of the ambassador to Australia, Tanieris Diéguez La O, as well as the cessation of several officials from the National Electoral Council.

The measures, signed by the president of the Parliament, Esteban Lazo Hernández, are part of a new cadre movement that has set the pace of the state apparatus decisions in recent months.

According to the independent newspaper 14ymedio, Tanieris Diéguez is a professor and lawyer from Matanzas who took on the leadership of the diplomatic mission in Canberra in 2023, following a distinguished academic career.

He graduated that same year, studied at the Higher Institute of International Relations (ISRI), and worked as a lecturer at the University of Havana and legal advisor at the Permanent Mission of Cuba to the UN.

Part of his work in Australia involved managing agreements for the entry of Cuban medical and educational missions into indigenous communities. So far, he has not publicly commented on his departure, and his profile on social media platform X makes no mention of his removal.

Changes in the Electoral Council

The Gaceta also officially announced the termination of Rubén Ramos Rojas as president of the Provincial Electoral Council of Villa Clara, due to “loss of the requirements to hold the position” and the conclusion of his employment relationship. In his place, Osvaldo Adolfo Guzmán Calderón was appointed.

Additionally, the departure of María Luisa Zamora Rodríguez as a member of the National Electoral Council was decided due to "instability in the performance of her duties" and at the request of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, which promoted her to the Human Resources Directorate of that entity.

To take his position, Prosecutor Juan Carlos García Caisés, a member of the Attorney General's Office of the Republic, was appointed.

These dismissals, which include high-ranking officials in the government such as the former Minister of Economy Alejandro Gil Fernández, removed in February 2024, and the Deputy Prime Minister since 2021, Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella, dismissed from his position in October 2024 for "errors in the performance of his duties," occur in the context of a profound economic crisis, characterized by food shortages, prolonged blackouts, and uncontrolled inflation.

The regime has prioritized the strengthening of political-ideological work and internal order, according to statements from Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz. These actions reflect a strategy of political control in response to the growing social discontent and internal criticisms.
