Two 22-year-old individuals, one of whom is of Cuban origin and naturalized Italian, were arrested in the province of Mantua, Italy, for possession of over 24 kilograms of hashish intended for trafficking, according to official sources.

During an operation by the Judicial Police in Mantua, 31,490 euros in cash were also seized, stated a statement published on the State Police website.

After receiving information about an alleged supply of narcotic substances by the Cuban, members of the Mobile Squad in Mantua found a large quantity of hashish hidden in his home and in that of a friend, a young man from Mantua.

In the garage of the Cuban's house, the officers found numerous packages used for packaging hashish, about which none of the young people could provide an explanation.

During a more thorough investigation, the agents located packages containing drugs with a total weight of approximately 8.5 kilos, as well as packaging material and 26,740 euros in cash.

The search then extended to the home of the other young man, located near that of his friend, where more than 16 kg of hashish and 4,750 euros in cash were discovered hidden on a shelf.

Both young men were arrested and taken to the Mantua jail, awaiting a validation hearing.

Authorities indicated that the detainees should be presumed innocent until a judicial authority issues a ruling on the case. The identities of none of the accused have been revealed.

The arrest of the Cuban adds to other cases of island citizens who have been involved in drug trafficking in the European country in recent years.

On May 16, outside of Milan, the police arrested a 27-year-old Cuban accused of attempted murder, after being identified as the perpetrator of the stabbing of a 13-year-old Egyptian boy in broad daylight. The attack occurred during a supposed drug transaction that went awry.

In September 2024, it was reported that four Cuban citizens in an irregular situation were arrested and faced immediate expulsion from Italian territory after being caught in possession of burglary tools and narcotic substances by police officers in Verbania, in northern Italy.

At the end of 2023, a Cuban was one of the 26 individuals arrested in Genoa during a police operation that dismantled a mafia criminal organization dedicated to drug trafficking.
