Wispriey Alfonso, a 40-year-old Cuban citizen, was placed in pretrial detention in Guyana for the brutal murder of his 21-year-old stepdaughter, Davely Morales, in a violent attack that also left the young woman's mother, Milaysi Rodrigues, 38 years old, severely injured.

However, the man will remain in preventive detention until July 9, 2025, while the authorities continue their investigation.

The crime occurred on May 23rd in lot 56 on Pike Street, in the Kitty neighborhood, where the family had been residing in a rental apartment since their recent arrival in Guyana about a month ago.

In the home were Alfonso, the victim Davely Morales, her mother Milaysi Rodrigues, and a younger sister who was only nine years old.

According to a police statement, around 7:00 in the morning, a tenant of the building heard shouts coming from the apartment and saw Alfonso attacking Rodrigues with a knife while she lay on the living room floor. Next to her, her daughter Davely Morales was also seriously injured, in a pool of blood.

Despite his injuries, Morales managed to leave the apartment, but collapsed a few meters away, on the building's walkway. Emergency services responded quickly, but a doctor from Georgetown Public Hospital confirmed his death at the scene. His mother was rushed to the hospital, where she remains in serious condition.

A forensic examination of Davely Morales' body revealed multiple stab wounds on the hands, the back of the head, and the jaw, indicating the extreme violence of the attack.

After the crime, Alfonso fled, but shortly after, he voluntarily surrendered at the Kitty police station, still carrying the knife with which he allegedly committed the homicide.

The young man who was a direct witness to the murder told a local media outlet that he was awakened by the screams and, when he approached, he saw the door ajar and the Cuban stabbing his victims. He confessed that he tried to intervene, but he was unable to do so.

With a trembling voice and clearly nervous from the scene he had to witness, he recounted that he went to his room and, upon returning, the young woman was approaching him seeking help when she collapsed.
