A truck loaded with cement overturns on the road in Havana

A truck loaded with cement overturned recently on the first ring road of Havana, in front of the area known as El Repollo, according to a report from the group on Facebook Accidents Buses & Trucks for more experience and fewer victims.

According to the information shared, the driver of the vehicle had reportedly fallen asleep at the wheel, which caused the accident. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed despite the impact and the heavy load he was carrying.

The incident adds to the long list of traffic accidents recorded on the island, many of which are linked to physical exhaustion, mechanical failures, or the poor condition of the roads.

Two people died on Sunday in a traffic accident that occurred during the early morning at the Cojímar roundabout in Havana. A third person was taken to a hospital and is currently in the intensive care unit.

In a scenario that seems encouraging but conceals a harsh reality, the road traffic accident data in Cuba for the past month of April reveals a concerning paradox: although the total number of accidents decreased compared to the same month last year, the number of fatalities increased.

Between January and April 2025, 2,377 traffic accidents were recorded, a decrease of 150 incidents compared to the same period in 2024.

However, the accidents were more deadly: fatalities increased, despite a decrease in the number of injuries, reported the state-run newspaper Granma.

Authorities announced that a comparative report for the first four months of 2025, alongside the same period of 2024, will soon be published in an effort to identify patterns and more effective solutions. However, authorities rarely acknowledge or thoroughly address the structural issues that lead to accidents, such as the poor condition of the roads and the country's vehicle fleet, for which the regime offers no solution.
