The Cuban actor William Levy criticized the immigration policies of President Donald Trump during an interview on the program “Herrera en COPE” in Spain, where he is promoting his new movie “Bajo un volcán,” which will premiere on June 20.

"We must start cleaning up the country from the bad side and not do it with all the people who contribute," Levy stated, referring to the direction the United States has taken as a host country.

"The American dream is lost," the popular actor added emphatically, leaving no doubts about his stance.

Levy recalled his arrival in the U.S. from Cuba and how he experienced a drastic change in his life: "I had never seen so many lights and so many cars in one place," he remarked.

Despite having grown up in poverty in a house where eleven people lived, he affirmed that he had a childhood rich in emotions and emotional stability.

Regarding his career, he noted that he chose to be an actor when he had the opportunity, and that faith has been an important guide in his life.

He also spoke about his family, especially his relationship with his daughter Kayly: "All people are happier with children. They are my driving force."

He currently resides in Miami, although he works most of the time outside the country. In the latter half of the year, he will be focused on his new professional projects.

In "Under a Volcano", he plays a member of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) during an eruption in Tenerife.

Levy shared that the filming involved real personnel from the UME and was a significant experience: “It has been very beautiful to be able to represent them.”

At the end of the interview, he answered a question from Commander Eduardo Romay regarding the Armed Forces, advocating for greater trust from the Government towards the UME. He also posed an open question to the next guest of the program: "Do you believe in love at first sight?"

Recently, the Cuban-American singer Gloria Estefan expressed her concern about the treatment of some immigrants in the United States and shared a personal experience she recently had during a domestic flight.

In an interview with Canela News, the artist reflected on the loss of humanity in certain migration practices and explained how her new album Raíces aims to send a positive message amid a political climate that she finds concerning.

During the conversation, Estefan recounted an incident he witnessed a few days ago on a flight from Las Vegas, when immigration agents boarded the plane before disembarkation.

“I saw there was a police officer at the airplane door and I thought 'oh oh.' They came in, there was a lady two rows behind me with a baby. They took the baby from her hands, the woman started crying, the baby started crying... Then more agents came and took the lady away,” she recounted.

"When I left, they had her sitting with the agents while the baby was in a car separate from her. What was the need to take the child from that mother’s arms if they were both going to leave anyway?" she wondered.
