William Levy spoke candidly about his recent arrest in the United States during his appearance on the Spanish show El Hormiguero. Although he was there to promote his new film, Bajo un volcán, the Cuban actor ended up making headlines by recounting, with ease and a sense of humor, how he ended up spending a night in jail.

According to what he explained, it all happened in a restaurant in Florida while he was having a drink with a friend. When it was time to pay, they noticed a charge that didn’t add up, and a discussion began with another person at the bar. “I stepped in to prevent the situation from escalating,” he said. However, the police's intervention complicated matters. “The way they told us to leave was inappropriate. It didn’t need to come to that, and that point led to my being taken away. I was already out at that moment. They took me. Simply. But it’s no big deal,” he summarized.

Levy wanted to make it clear that he did not refuse to pay or assault anyone, as was speculated in some media. “It wasn’t anything serious. Not everything that was said happened,” he assured. And, to downplay the situation, he made a joke: “Now I belong to the club of artists with legal issues.”

The actor was released after posting bail, and his lawyer appeared in court on June 4, although he did not show up. He has pleaded not guilty and, according to his defense, will participate in an anger management program. The next hearing is scheduled for June 26.

Nothing was more important to him than making it to his son's game right after being released from prison. “I changed in the car, arrived five minutes late, and ate 15 hot dogs because I was so hungry,” he recounted. Despite the rough time, William Levy downplayed the episode: “Just another experience in life.”
