Ulises Toirac questions the government for criticizing the U.S.: "Let's focus on solving our problems."

The Cuban comedian Ulises Toirac has once again made it clear why he is one of the most insightful and courageous voices in the Cuban artistic scene.

In a post on Facebook, he responded with sarcasm and depth to those trying to divert attention from the university protests in Cuba by comparing them to demonstrations in the United States.

"Dear representatives of that special genre of 'catfish' from the Clariidae family," he begins his sharp critique.

With sharp humor and pointed arguments, it dismantles the opportunistic comparison between the student struggle against ETECSA's rate hike and pro-immigrant protests in the United States, reminding us that "my candle is here" and that its commitment is to the Cuban reality, not to foreign debates.

Ulises, however, does not shy away from global issues. In his text, he also condemns the indiscriminate raids in that country, the use of unjustified force, and Donald Trump's immigration policy, whom he describes as "the worst of American presidents."

But it makes it clear that, although it has an opinion, "it's not their briefcase." The priority – as he insists – is Cuba: "Let them solve their problems, and let's focus on solving ours."

The actor has been one of the most active figures in supporting the Cuban university movement, which, with courage and organization, has risen against the increase in rates imposed by the state-run ETECSA.

In another recent post, he celebrated the democratic maturity of the students of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, who voted in an orderly manner on whether to continue the strike.

"I hadn't seen a vote like this in Cuba in years," she wrote with admiration, emphasizing the transparency of the process and the depth of the statement issued by the youth.

Ulises has been consistent and straightforward since the communications monopoly announced the new prices.

In other posts, he denounced the state's mechanisms of repression, mocked the existence of "manuals" to stifle dissent, and defended the clarity of the students against the official attempt to discredit them with worn-out clichés like the "empire's strategy."

"They are not fools (they are university students), they understood the inconsistencies and absurdities", he said at that time, rejecting the notion that Cuban youth act as if they are being manipulated.

His direct criticism of institutional responses—like the classic "if you don't like it, emigrate"—resonated widely on social media, where his phrase "reason cannot be coercive" has become emblematic of this situation.

After being summoned by State Security for a "conversation", Toirac did not back down.

Rather than falling silent, he reaffirmed his commitment to Cuban youth by sending a direct message against repression and the censorship of critical opinions.

"Seeing the enemy in someone who makes you confront the reality you wish to ignore is a way of evading your errors and shortcomings. That the label of 'enemy' implies my social destruction is an abuse of power. I am not your enemy. It is the reality," he said in a post that included the hashtag #NoToquenALosUniversitarios.

The comedian insists that what is at stake is not just a rate increase, but dignity, justice, and the right of a generation to be heard.

Today, Toirac remains steadfast: with humor, with arguments, and with a moral clarity that disarms both propagandists and bureaucrats alike.

His message, essentially, is simple yet powerful: the debate about Cuba cannot continue to be hijacked by empty comparisons, manipulated diversions, or veiled threats. Because, as he himself repeats, "my fire is here."
