The Florida police arrested on Wednesday a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport for allegedly pushing a 79-year-old traveler.
The authorities confirmed to WPLG that Janiyah Wilson-Robinson, 21 years old and a resident of Margate, Broward County, committed a crime of aggravated assault against an elderly woman from Palm Beach Gardens by "placing the palms of her hands (on the victim) and pushing her forcefully."
The victim stumbled and hit her forehead, according to the police. Although the medical staff provided her with an ice pack, the woman refused to receive hospital treatment.
The passenger, who was set to fly on a JetBlue flight to California, sustained "minor bruises."
Wilson-Robinson spent Wednesday night in custody at the North Broward Bureau detention center. She was released on Thursday on a $1,000 bail.
The agent was granted an administrative leave while investigations into the incident are ongoing.
In a statement, a spokesperson for the TSA told Fox News that the agency was aware of the arrest.
"The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is aware of the recent arrest of one of our agents. The TSA demands the highest standards of professionalism and integrity from its employees, and we do not tolerate behaviors that violate these standards or the public's trust," he said.
Additionally, he stated that they are fully cooperating with the police authorities in their investigation.
