Spectacular accident in Camagüey involves director of Community Services

An accident that occurred on the bypass of Camagüey, near the vocational pre-university school, resulted in a flipped car and its driver sustaining injuries that required hospitalization.

User Facebook Alexander Rios Cruz posted a brief note about the incident, along with photos of an overturned government vehicle.

"At the wheel was the director of Comunales, according to those present," he wrote.

In other reports, it was confirmed that the injured driver is the provincial director of the Comunales Company, who sustained injuries but is not in danger of losing his life.

"The accident occurred in front of the vocational school; the driver swerved to avoid an electric tricycle and lost control. The injured party (...) was alone and reportedly only suffered a fractured collarbone, but has already undergone surgery," said a user in the post on Facebook La Tijera.

"I was there, but they had already taken the driver to Amalia Simone Hospital. Those who did see him say he only had a small wound on his head," recounted another.

Other citizens expressed annoyance at the use of state vehicles for personal purposes or without a clear justification.

"The director of Comunales is wasting the company's dollars and cars without fuel. (...). 'Everything is corrupt in this country,' stated an internet user."

A Habanero directly questioned the use of the car: "Directors are supposed to not drive state cars, as there are chauffeur positions available for them. I hope he is doing well."

So far, the authorities have not issued an official statement regarding the accident nor confirmed the identity of the driver.

However, the case once again brings to the forefront the debate over the misuse of state resources and the lack of transparency in public administration, within a context of material shortages and economic crisis for the majority of the population.
