The Antonio Guiteras Thermal Power Plant (CTE), located in Matanzas and regarded as the most efficient unit block in Cuba, was re-synchronized to the National Electric System (SEN) this Tuesday after having gone offline in the morning due to a "false protection signal."

Mario Sabines Lorenzo, the first secretary of the Party in Matanzas, confirmed the synchronization to the SEN shortly after noon in an update published by the local newspaper Girón.

The plant's technical director, Román Pérez Castañeda, explained to official media that the unexpected discharge was related to the regulating valve system in the turbine area, but he ruled out the presence of serious damage that would jeopardize the unit's operation.

"The purpose is to return to the SEN today and to extend the online presence until the end of June," he said.

The unit was disconnected at 6:00 a.m. while generating more than 220 megawatts, a significant figure amidst the country's fragile power situation.

The return of the Guiteras comes at a critical moment, marked by frequent blackouts and limitations in electricity generation.

Pérez Castañeda added that, despite having recently operated with high water consumption, corrective actions have been implemented to ensure the stability of the plant.

A scheduled shutdown is expected at the end of the month to address technical issues and ensure the block's operational capacity during the summer.
