Two of the injured from the trailer accident in Pinar del Río, where four people lost their lives, remain in critical condition and hospitalized.

After undergoing surgery, Alberto Rodríguez Martínez remains in "critical" condition with an uncertain prognosis at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Clinical Surgical Hospital, reported Radio Guamá.

For her part, 10-year-old Arlenis Martínez Blanco remains in serious condition, with moderate cranioencephalic trauma at the Pepe Portilla Pediatric Hospital.

According to Dr. Héctor Rodríguez Martínez, an intensivist at the ICU 2 in the Clinical Surgical Hospital of Pinar del Río, Rodríguez Martínez "arrived at our hospital's emergency room in shock. We immediately assessed him with the entire multidisciplinary team and determined that he had a hemoperitoneum."

"They were immediately taken to the operating room and began the treatment specific to this type of patient in therapy," he clarified.

"The patient is conscious, no longer showing signs of thermal gradients or active bleeding; they remain a critical patient with a very reserved prognosis, which is why we will continue with strict monitoring in the coming hours. They are receiving the appropriate therapy in these cases with thorough vital support," the doctor added.

For his part, Dr. Jesús Lazo Cabrera, a specialist with a second degree in intensive care and pediatrics, stated that the girl Arlenis "has skin lesions, meaning that, at the moment, they do not pose a danger to her life."

"He has a subdural hematoma and a neurological state that is progressing, so the possibility of an increase in that involvement is being monitored. This is what we call a moderate traumatic brain injury, but it is not life-threatening at this time," he summarized.

Lazo Cabrera warned that "the possibility of any new clinical or surgical element that could worsen the patient's condition is being monitored."

Finally, Léster Ramón Garrido, 30 years old, who was also hospitalized at the Abel Santamaría Cuadrado Clinical Surgical Hospital, has been discharged from the hospital.

The accident occurred at 9:15 PM on Friday, at kilometer two of the Luis Lazo road in Pinar del Río, when the driver of the truck lost control on the road and crashed into a group of people who were on the sidewalk in front of a house.

Among the dead is 9-year-old Miliany Pérez Javier and 24-year-old pregnant Anairis Sánchez Blanco, the outlet reported.

The other deceased are: Aliomar A. Sotolongo Alcina, 21 years old, and Deisy Javier Pérez, 53 years old.

The responsible driver, who had fled the scene of the incident, was arrested this Saturday.
