A 64-year-old man died this Monday in the municipality of Colón, Matanzas province, after suffering a traffic accident while riding his motorcycle.
The incident occurred at the intersection of López Coloma and B streets, in the Oeste Popular Council, when the victim attempted to overtake an electric scooter and lost control of the vehicle, according to a report on Facebook by the official profile ‘Con Todos La Victoria’.
As a result of the impact, the driver fell violently onto the pavement, hitting his head, which caused severe injuries. Despite being taken to a medical facility, the medical efforts could not save his life.
Witnesses of the incident were shocked by the violence of the accident, which occurred in the afternoon and prompted a quick response from emergency services and local authorities.
Agents of the Revolutionary National Police are investigating the causes of the incident to determine responsibility and clarify the details of the event.
This unfortunate event brings to mind a concerning series of fatal traffic accidents in the province of Matanzas.
At the end of April this year, a 21-year-old Dutch tourist lost her life after a motorcycle accident in the city of Matanzas. The victim was riding as a passenger and sustained fatal injuries after falling from the vehicle. The driver, a young Cuban man, was admitted in critical condition.
Months earlier, in December 2024, an accident that also occurred in Colón involved a car and a scooter. The collision left two individuals with serious injuries, one of whom suffered from severe traumatic brain injury, which caused great concern in the community.
