Argentina's economy recorded a year-on-year growth of 5.8% in the first quarter of 2025, according to a report released on Tuesday by the Ministry of Economy and the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC).

In addition, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the South American nation showed an expansion of 0.8% compared to the previous quarter.

The data confirms a strong economic recovery, driven by the adjustment and liberalization policies of President Javier Milei, who took office with the promise of reducing public spending and removing market restrictions.

The well-known "chainsaw revolution" has allowed for a 30% reduction in state spending, resulting in the first real fiscal surplus in Argentina's recent history, without the need to resort to default.

The structural reforms, which include deregulation, incentives for the private sector, and tax changes, have boosted investments, especially in strategic sectors such as agriculture and energy, the entity points out.

The strengthening of the Argentine peso has contributed to improving real wages and stimulating consumption, particularly of cars and housing, which is reaching record levels. Inflation, which had reached 211.4%, has drastically reduced to 43.5% in May, according to official data.

"Argentina is demonstrating that it is possible to stabilize the economy without falling into a debt crisis, and with responsible fiscal policy," highlighted the Ministry of Economy on its social media.

Economic growth and the improvement of macroeconomic indicators have positioned the country as a case study in 2025, while Milei continues to champion free market policies and the balance of public accounts.

Monthly inflation, which was around 23% in December 2023, fell to 2.8% in April 2025, allowing for a recovery in real wages. At the same time, the country is experiencing the highest level of employment on record, and GDP is growing at over 5% annually, marking the exit from a prolonged period of stagflation.

The recovery was already evident in March, when 62,808 housing transactions were carried out, a 40.6% increase compared to the same month in 2024, marking the best March since 2007. New homes led the surge with a 64.2% growth, while used homes increased by 34.8%.

The used car sector is also experiencing a historic moment. In April 2025, 158,960 vehicles were sold, which is a 16.7% increase compared to April 2024 and an 11.6% increase compared to March. The first four months of the year closed with 620,383 cars sold, marking the best April since monthly statistics have been recorded, according to the Automotive Commerce Chamber (CCA).

The improvement in economic expectations is reflected in surveys and in the consumer confidence index, which reached its highest level since 2017. More and more Argentinians believe that their financial situation will improve, which fuels a virtuous cycle of consumption and investment.

The government acknowledges that recovery still needs to be solidified. Maintaining fiscal discipline, continuing the deregulation of key sectors, and fostering productive investment will be essential to ensure that growth is sustainable in the long term.

Despite the ongoing risks, the Argentine economy has made a turnaround. And most importantly, this change is already visible on the streets, in the dealerships, and at the notary offices.
