The Miami police are seeking the public's assistance to identify and locate a man with a "Cuban accent" who is between 65 and 68 years old and was involved in a violent robbery at a travel agency in Little Havana.
Although the information has just been released, the incident occurred in early June.
The robbery took place around 10:45 a.m. on June 2 at a location on Southwest 59th Avenue and 8th Street, a busy commercial area in the heart of Little Havana.
According to the police report, the suspect entered the business pretending to be a customer and asked routine questions.
The employee who attended to him, María Landa, never imagined she was about to experience one of the most terrifying moments of her life.
“He said to me: 'This is a real assault'; and I replied: ‘no, don't tell me that’”, Landa recounted to the Univision channel, remembering the moment when the man revealed his true intentions.
The knife at the throat and the constant threat
In a matter of seconds, the individual pulled out a concealed knife and held it to the worker's neck, demanding that she hand over the money present at the location.
"When he asks her the question, he grabs a knife he had, threatens her, and tells her to take all the money that was in the establishment. She goes to the back of the business and retrieves what there was, which was 30 dollars in cash," explained Miami police spokesman Mike Vega to the cited media.
Seeing such a small amount of money, the man became more violent. The attacker showed signs of desperation and once again intimidated the victim with the knife.
Seeing the growing danger, Landa decided to hand over the 200 dollars he had in his wallet, as well as a bracelet valued at $5,000, according to the aforementioned source. “At that moment, so many things go through your mind. I told myself: today I died,” María Landa confessed, moved as she relived the moment.
Suspect captured on camera
The face of the attacker was captured on the security cameras of the establishment.
According to the authorities, it is a Hispanic man between 65 and 68 years old, approximately 1.65 meters tall, with a Cuban accent.
He was last seen wearing a white shirt and light blue jeans, leaving the scene of the robbery, heading east on 8th Street.
The news has raised concern among local merchants, many of whom have been operating in Little Havana for years without experiencing incidents like this.
The Miami police have requested the public's assistance in identifying the thief.
Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has information about their whereabouts can contact the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers line anonymously.
As of this closing, there are no additional details about the case.
