The Cuban journalist Javier Díaz, host of Noticias Univisión 23 in Miami and acritical voice of the regime from exile, announced that he will be temporarily off the air due to health reasons after being diagnosed with a lumbar hernia.
Through a video posted this Wednesday on his Facebook profile, the announcer explained that he had to go to the emergency room last Tuesday due to intense pain in the lower back area of his spine, which left him practically immobile for 24 hours.
"Since last Tuesday, I had to go to an emergency room here in Miami because I was experiencing pain in the lumbar area of my spine that practically kept me immobile for 24 hours," Díaz recounted, still recovering at home.
The doctors detected a hernia that was pressing on a nerve, which caused the severe pain.
Díaz clarified that he did not want to share images of his hospitalization to avoid unnecessarily alarming his followers and waited until he had a clear diagnosis before speaking publicly on the matter.
"I need to rest at home for several days. I can't walk much or sit for long periods until the inflammation in my vertebra subsides," he detailed.
Although his current condition requires rest and treatment with anti-inflammatories, the journalist expressed his desire to return to the screen soon.
"I hope to be able to return in the coming days; I can already imagine presenting the 11 o'clock and 6 o'clock evening editions of Noticias Univisión 23 here in Miami starting Sunday," he stated.
With gratitude and honesty, he also stated that he was unaware he had this condition and expressed solidarity with those who have experienced a similar crisis: “Anyone suffering from a herniated disc knows what this means when they go into crisis.”
Finally, he sent a reassuring message to his followers: "I am fine, still in some pain, but I wanted to come here on my social media and leave you this message so that you don’t worry. Thank you all for the support."
From exile, Díaz has not missed an opportunity to expose the Cuban regime and unveil its lies.
On one occasion, he stated that being born and living in Cuba is like being locked in a cage, “and only when they open the door can you fly for the first time and spread your wings,” he emphasized on his social media.
"Only those who are Cuban can understand what that means and how a system can subject an entire people to the most absolute deception never seen before," he added.
On another occasion, he shared a profound reflection on the meaning of freedom, comparing his life before and after leaving the Caribbean nation.
He shared a photo of the Parthenon, Greece, and expressed that the true understanding of what it means to live in freedom comes when one can experience life beyond the limitations imposed by the Cuban regime.
In November, he expressed: "I am Cuban, I am 36 years old, and this is the first time in my life that I vote for the president of a country in an election. I hope you understand the message," emphasized the host of Univisión on his Facebook profile.
Additionally, he stated, "Those who ignore the reality of Cuba are simply complicit with the dictatorship," referring to the commitment he feels both to his profession and to the responsibility of denouncing the Cuban regime, which he considers to be devoid of democracy.
