Upon his return to Cuba, actor Alejandro Cuervo revealed to the program La Familia Cubana what he liked the least about his stay in the United States, following a visit marked by controversy and intense scrutiny on social media.

From the very José Martí International Airport, Cuervo was emphatic in criticizing "the way content creators do their work."

"Without having proof of anything, they invent stories," the artist emphasized, accusing certain influencers and digital media from the Cuban exile of fabricating falsehoods about his personal and professional life.

"Right now, there are publications claiming that I have even had an accident; some have listed prices for products from my businesses that are not accurate... Since there's no need to prove anything, what is being said is unfounded and not true. They want to tarnish my image at all costs," he emphasized.

For Cuervo, the attitude of his detractors on social media reveals a profound wickedness: "It's like a 100-meter dash to find a flaw in the sun. Since they can't find one, since it doesn’t exist, they then invent and slander."

He was also surprised by what he described as a hostile environment for freedom of thought, especially among those who self-identify as defenders of democracy.

"It's incredible the hatred. You realize they don't want to hear another discourse," he stated.

Alejandro cited the Dominican youtuber Destino Tolk as an example, who, he stated, has been labeled a communist for giving space to artists like him, who refuse to repeat the "exile discourse of the Cuban community in Miami."

"They offend them, they see them as enemies simply for listening to anyone's voice. That is true freedom: let me express what I feel and what I believe and then you draw your own conclusions," he stated.

Despite the criticism, the actor acknowledged that he received expressions of affection, respect, and admiration from many Cubans on the street, for which he was grateful: "I felt loved as if I were in Cuba," he stated.

During his trip, which included stops in Miami and New York, Cuervo was interviewed by journalist Javier Díaz, before whom he reiterated that his presence in the country was not politically motivated nor linked to the Cuban government.

In Cuba, no one tells me what I have to say. I know perfectly well what I have, what I can, and what I should not say (...) However, I arrive in the United States and I am greeted with a slogan: 'Say it or you are my enemy,'” he questioned at that time.

The actor, who has faced harsh criticism from some exile groups for his statements and his conciliatory approach towards the dictatorship, also denied having any ties to the regime and defended his achievements in business as a result of his own effort.

Yes, it is possible to move forward in Cuba, he said in Destino Tolk, a phrase that earned him a new wave of scrutiny.

Even so, she shared moments of enjoyment during her time in the United States on her social media, including her attendance at a musical on Broadway.

Upon returning to Cuba, when asked if he plans to travel to the United States again soon, he responded ambiguously: "God will decide."

His return confirms what he had already stated: he has no intention of staying outside of Cuba.

However, the controversy surrounding his visit - and his words - will likely continue to fuel the debate about the role of Cuban artists amid the polarized political landscape of the Island and the exile community.
