Driver dies after crashing into a car in Cárdenas

The driver collided with the side of an animal-drawn carriage in the city of Matanzas. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed.

The Facebook profile “Con Todos La Victoria”, linked to the Ministry of the Interior, reported on Thursday the traffic accident that occurred in the Versalles popular council of the coastal city.

According to the publication, the driver was traveling on Tenería Street and, “apparently, did not pay proper attention” and collided with the side of a horse-drawn carriage.

As a result of the collision, he was seriously injured, with danger to his life. He was transferred to the hospital in Matanzas for medical attention but passed away.

So far, the victim of the accident has not been identified.

The note urged "caution and respect for traffic regulations to prevent tragedies" like this one.

The incident adds to a series of fatal traffic accidents reported in recent weeks.

On Sunday, a driver also died after colliding with a bus in the Diez de Octubre municipality in Havana.

Two weeks prior, another tragic accident claimed the life of a motorcycle rider, who collided with a truck at the intersection of the airport highway and the Wajay road in the capital.

In mid-June, two motorcycles collided on a busy avenue in Santiago de Cuba. The passenger of one of the vehicles was seriously injured and passed away days later.

According to the latest official report, from January to April of this year, there were 2,377 traffic accidents in Cuba, 150 fewer than in the same months of 2024. However, the accidents were more lethal, as the number of fatalities increased, authorities indicated, who did not provide figures on the deaths in these incidents.

The human factor continues to be the main cause in 91% of accidents, stated Colonel Roberto Rodríguez Fernández, head of the Specialized Traffic Body of the General Directorate of the Revolutionary National Police.
