A 41-year-old Cuban resident of Doral was arrested on Saturday and faces multiple charges for two violent assaults committed this week in Miami-Dade County.
The first incident was a brutal sexual assault committed in broad daylight on Thursday, July 3, in the west of Miami, and the second was a physical assault against a hotel employee in Doral the following day.
Sexual assault in West Miami-Dade
According to the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office (MDSO), the accused, identified as Daysnel Hernández, attacked a 28-year-old woman as she was getting out of her car in a parking lot outside a shopping center in West Miami-Dade.
The incident occurred around 10:30 am, near 777 Northwest and 72nd Avenue, Miami, in an unincorporated area of the county.
According to the arrest report, which Diario de las Américas had access to, Hernández struck her on the back of the head with a large rock, covered her mouth, placed a screwdriver against her neck, and dragged her to a secluded area of the location.
Once there, the victim was repeatedly punched while trying to resist. Subsequently, the assailant raped her while still armed with the screwdriver.
The woman was forced to perform sexual acts, including vaginal and oral penetration. Hernández ejaculated in her mouth before fleeing the scene on foot. During the assault, she begged him not to kill her because she feared for her life.
As a result of the assault, the young woman suffered multiple lacerations, abrasions, and bruises all over her body.
The MDSO agents immediately began an investigation after receiving the report.
Arrest and confession
Shortly after the attack, Hernández was arrested by the Doral Police in connection with a separate incident.
After being taken into custody and having his Miranda rights read to him, the detainee confessed to having "assaulted" the girl and confirmed the details she provided, according to official documents.
He was subsequently transferred without incident to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK), where he remains detained while the bail amount is being determined.
Due to this assault, Hernández faces charges of kidnapping while committing aggravated assault with a weapon, sexual assault with a deadly weapon causing injury, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Second incident in Doral
The second incident attributed to Hernández occurred on Friday, July 4th.
The Doral Police revealed that the suspect allegedly "physically assaulted" an employee of the Doral Inn & Suites hotel, located at 1212 NW 82nd Avenue.
The exact circumstances have not been detailed thus far, as the investigation is still ongoing.
According to Local 10, in addition to the charges related to sexual assault, court records indicate that Hernández also faces charges for robbery with assault or attack, and attempted second-degree murder, linked to the incident in Doral.
