A 48-year-old Cuban was arrested and is facing charges related to an attempted rape that occurred in March in the city of Opa-locka, in Miami-Dade County, as reported this Tuesday by the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office (MDSO).

The incident, which took place on March 6, involves Yosvany González, who was formally accused after an alleged violent attack against a woman with whom he had previously shared a residence.

According to the arrest report released by the MDSO - and cited by Local 10 - the investigators of the case stated that González and the victim "lived together as a family for about a year", before the accused left the shared home, on a date prior to the incident.

Physical assault and attempted sexual assault

According to the victim's statement in the police report, González reportedly burst into her room and punched her in the face.

As a result of the attack, the woman presented "bruises and a cut on her upper lip," according to the report.

However, the alleged assailant did not stop there, as "González then tried to force the victim to have sexual relations, but was unable to do so."

Subsequently, the defendant fell asleep, which allowed the victim to escape from the residence and contact the authorities.

The Special Victims Unit of the MDSO summoned González for a voluntary interview that took place the following Monday.

During the encounter, the agents read the suspect his Miranda rights. After that, the Cuban "denied the accusations."

Charges filed and current legal situation

The prison records reveal that Yosvany González is currently facing two formal charges: one for sexual assault without serious personal injury and another for robbery involving assault or aggression.
