Six Cuban immigrants were intercepted by the National Civil Police (PNC) of Guatemala while traveling illegally to the United States, guided by an alleged human trafficker.

La Hora.gt reported that the operation was carried out by agents from the Division of Ports, Airports, and Border Posts (Dipafront), who caught Aníbal “N”, 31 years old, in the act, identified as a coyote.

The group of Cubans consists of two women and four men. The arrest took place at a checkpoint located at kilometer 140 on the road to El Salvador. The detained Guatemalan was driving a gray sedan with license plates P-126KLP.

The six Cubans were traveling inside the vehicle, without any security and in inhumane conditions. The police assert that these individuals did not have legal records of entry into Guatemalan territory.

Cuban citizens were referred to the Guatemalan Institute of Migration (IGM), while the captured individual was made available to the relevant court. The vehicle was placed under judicial custody.

In March, the authorities in Guatemala arrested another group of 15 Cuban immigrants, including four minors, along with the alleged coyote who was transporting them on a road in the southern part of the country.
