A Cuban from Miami was arrested on charges of sexual abuse of a nine-year-old boy, which he justified when confronted by the child's mother as "something men do."
The Miami Police arrested Reinaldo Reyes Llanes, a 67-year-old Cuban national, in Allapatah last Saturday, facing a charge of lewd and lascivious behavior involving a minor under the age of 12, reported the television channel Local 10 News.
According to the arrest report, the child's mother took him to a social gathering organized by her employer at an apartment located at 3701 NW 22nd Ave. Reyes, who is the employer's neighbor, was also invited to the event.
When the guests started to leave, Reyes suggested to the woman that she spend the night in his apartment with his son and offered them his bed.
The woman told authorities that when the child was lying on the bed, Reyes "entered the bedroom, slapped him on the buttocks over his clothes, and then grabbed his genital area in front over his clothes."
According to the testimony gathered by the police, the child's reaction was to turn towards his mother and look at her. She then questioned Reyes about why he had touched the child's private parts, to which the man responded with a laugh: "I'm Cuban. That's a man's thing."
In the interrogation, Reyes denied having abused the minor. This Monday, the Cuban was still held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami, without bail.
According to the laws of the state of Florida, lewd or lascivious conduct against a minor under 12 years of age is a second-degree felony if committed by an adult over 18 years of age, and is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, 15 years of probation for sex offenders, and a fine of up to $10,000.
