An investigation into a stolen vehicle ended this Wednesday in a shooting in North Miami, leaving a suspect with a gunshot wound and two police officers with minor injuries, local authorities confirmed.

The incident occurred around 4:15 p.m. in the 400 block of Northeast 137th Street, in the parking lot of an apartment complex, when officers from the North Miami Police located a vehicle reported as stolen. Upon calling for backup, units from the Miami-Dade County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, as reported by CBS Miami.

During the intervention, an exchange of gunfire occurred. A man, suspected of being linked to the stolen car, was hit by multiple shots and was taken to a hospital for medical attention. His health status has not been disclosed.

The chief of the North Miami Police, Cherise Gause, confirmed that two officers from her department were injured, but clarified that they were not shot. “A male suspect was struck by multiple gunshots. Additionally, he indicated that it remains unknown what exactly happened before the shooting and whether the suspects were armed. "We do not have that information at this time," Gause responded to questions about whether the detainees fired their weapons.

According to witness reports, the incident reportedly began with a chase of a stolen car. They indicate that the driver of the vehicle attempted to enter a driveway without stopping, while a woman jumped out of the car. Some claim that an officer may have been in the path of the vehicle before the gunshots were heard. This version has not been officially confirmed.

In total, two people were detained. By Wednesday night, their identities had not been disclosed, nor whether they are facing charges, according to reported Telemundo 51.

It’s not safe for children,” said a resident to the channel CBS Miami. Another neighbor remarked that they are no longer surprised: “It doesn’t affect me; it’s already normal,” they stated, adding that they had been trapped in their home for more than three hours due to the operation.
