Investigations into the brutal murder of two young people in Cienfuegos on June 29 continue to reveal new leads and names.
The official profile "Las cosas de Fernanda," which has been following the case, revealed recently the identity of another of the alleged material authors of the crime, as efforts intensify to capture him and another accomplice who are still at large.
The name of the third individual involved is Ernesto Iznaga Rodríguez.
A crime that shook Cienfuegos
During the early morning hours of June 29, near the bar "El 24" in the city of Cienfuegos, an altercation escalated into violence, resulting in a double homicide.
The victims were Lester Leal and Luardys Agulle Jiménez, who were brutally attacked while spending time with family, including a pregnant woman and a minor, who also sustained injuries.
According to testimonies on social media, the conflict reportedly began inside the bar under the influence of alcohol and moved to the street, where the tragedy occurred.
Luardys's body was found dead at the site, while Lester was transported alive to a hospital, where he passed away shortly after.
Indignation grew when relatives publicly reported delays in police assistance and the transfer of the deceased, claiming they were told that "there was no fuel" to carry out the body removal. This complaint further fueled public discontent, already ignited by the violence of crime.
Three suspects have been identified: one is already in custody
In the days following the crime, the official profile "Las cosas de Fernanda" confirmed the arrest of Yoslayny de la Rosa Rodríguez, owner of a Jagua motorcycle.
Although De la Rosa Rodríguez was not the one who physically assaulted the victims, he played a key role in the escape from the scene, as he transported the two attackers on his motorcycle immediately after the crime, which makes him a direct accomplice in the events.
The motorcycle was seized and, according to the mentioned profile, it will likely be confiscated.
Direct Responsibility Update
Alongside Yoslayny, the investigations have confirmed the direct involvement of two perpetrators in the murder: Emmanuel Alberto Rodríguez García, known as "El Chivero," and Ernesto Iznaga Rodríguez.
Both were the ones who, according to the official profile, physically attacked the victims during the deadly altercation.
Although it has not been specified which of the two inflicted the wounds that caused the deaths of Lester and Luardys, both are considered the material authors of the crime.
According to citizen testimonies collected by the same source, El Chivero and Iznaga would be hiding together to avoid going to jail.
In addition to the three main individuals involved, the report also stated that arrests have been made for concealment.
Several individuals who were aware of what happened or who helped conceal those involved could face charges as accomplices under current legislation, which penalizes silence or complicity in the face of serious crimes.
Social reactions and demands for justice
The murder of Lester and Luardys has sparked a wave of pain and anger in the community. On social media, friends, neighbors, and family members have shared messages of mourning along with photographs of the deceased, particularly from Luardys' funeral, which was accompanied by messages like "we are all shattered" and calls to ensure that the crime does not go unpunished.
The emotional dimension of the case has also reignited the debate on citizen safety and the perception of impunity in Cuba, despite the fact that in recent months, there has been an increase in information from official media about trials conducted for both extreme acts of violence and drug-related offenses.
Nevertheless, there is a growing segment of Cuban society that calls for the reestablishment of the death penalty for crimes of this nature.
