A video posted on TikTok by the user @lizz_vato, where she discusses her son's Cuban therapist, has sparked a wave of reactions on social media due to her words of admiration for Cubans and for highlighting the positive impact of professional support.
The woman, who appears speaking to the camera and then shows images in a park where her son plays with a therapist, shares: “My baby, the youngest, has been receiving therapy for bullying that he experienced at school. He is autistic, and my son's therapist is miraculously Cuban.”
In the same video, add: “Today my son's therapy is in the park, the therapist is playing with my son in a language that belongs to his mother, in Spanish, in the park,” while showing the scene.
She also reflects on the cultural differences between herself and the child's father: “My son’s dad is European; the culture, what is important, the culture. My son doesn't have that experience of his dad taking him to play in the park because they come from different cultures.”
In another instance, he expresses: “I don’t know, I feel like God placed me close to the Cubans, because we are very similar, nothing brings us down, we laugh at our own tragedies, we are always happy, we are our own worst critics.”
“I don’t know, I feel that Cubans and Mexicans have many similarities, I don’t know, what do you think?” he concludes, prompting a flurry of comments.
The video, which has already surpassed 111,000 views, has sparked thousands of reactions, mostly from Cuban users expressing gratitude for the woman's words and highlighting values such as solidarity, empathy, and human warmth. Some shared similar experiences or simply expressed their pride in the Cuban community.
In addition to sharing her experience as a mother, Lizzete Valenzuela, known on social media as Liz Vato, is a Mexican seamstress residing in Miami, born in Culiacán. Her personal story is marked by challenges that led her to find in fashion an authentic form of expression. Currently, she blends her Latin roots with an international outlook, having dressed artists such as Sael Maldonado, João Ferreira, and Geraldine Galván. Her message, both in design and on social media, celebrates identity, emotional strength, and the pride of belonging to a diverse and resilient community.
The recent publication on TikTok adds to a series of viral content showcasing the cultural and human bond between Cubans and other Latin communities. Last March, a young Mexican woman was celebrated online after dancing reparto in front of a Cuban, and in July 2024, a Mexican man married to a Cuban went viral as he practiced his "cubaneo" to visit the island.
There have also been viral testimonies like that of a young Venezuelan who defended her Cuban accent after being criticized, explaining how she was welcomed by the Cuban community since her arrival in the United States.
This new video once again highlights how personal experiences can enhance the bonds between cultures in migratory contexts and how a professional and humane gesture can have a profound impact on a family's life.
