A Gazelle taxi from the company Taxis Cuba ended up partially overturned in a ditch on Wednesday morning on the Jústiz road heading to Guanabo, once again highlighting the dangers posed by many poorly maintained roads in Havana and the constant improvisation faced by drivers and passengers in Cuba.
The image, shared in the Facebook group “ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES por más experiencia y menos víctimas!” by the user Alberto Pérez, shows the vehicle, identifiable as one of the popular yellow microbuses of the state transportation system, stuck off the road, with one of its rear wheels hanging in the air, while the rest of the vehicle appears to be sunk in mud and vegetation.
So far, no injuries have been reported, but the scene has raised concerns among the neighbors, who claim that the area is particularly dangerous due to a lack of signage, overgrown vegetation encroaching on the roadway, and the deteriorating asphalt.
“There is no such road, just another achievement,” Maikel López sarcastically remarked.
“That road is useless”, declared Guido Fernández.
“They must be referring to the embankment of Jústiz for Guanabo... poor driver, he’s in a tough spot,” added Michel Villariño.
“I hope the driver is okay”, wrote Marelis Cata, adding a note of empathy.
This incident is not isolated. With the economic crisis the country is experiencing, accidents due to poor road conditions, lack of vehicle maintenance, and inadequate lighting have become increasingly frequent.
Many Cubans report feeling abandoned in the face of a transportation system that is not only inadequate but also dangerous, while authorities continue to provide no concrete solutions.
