Cuban animal rights activists reported the arrest of the individual who sacrificed a stolen horse in Gibara, Holguín.

“Following the horrific incident that occurred in Uñas, Gibara, Holguín province, where an individual under the influence of alcohol ruthlessly sacrificed a defenseless horse and then fell asleep on the animal's body, we can now confirm with total seriousness and responsibility that the case has taken a definitive turn: the aggressor has been imprisoned and will face criminal charges,” stated in a Facebook post the Animal Welfare Coalition of Cuba (BAC).

"Norge Rodríguez (alias Norgitín) was formally charged and is incarcerated," they assured.

BAC explained that thanks to a collaborator residing in that same town, they were able to compile a file with evidence of the incident.

"This person appeared at the police unit in Gibara, where they were received by the authorities. The material provided was crucial," they assured.

They also stated that "the police deeply appreciated the contribution."

“This case will not go unpunished. And the message is clear: in Cuba, animal abuse must have real consequences. BAC will not stop. Wherever there is injustice, we will be there. Until the very end,” emphasized the animal rights activists.

The sacrifice of the horse

The incident had been reported last Thursday by the official Facebook profile Cazador-Cazado, which explained that the individual in question, after consuming large amounts of alcohol, stole a chestnut horse that belonged to a neighbor in the village.

He took the animal to his mother's house, where he proceeded to sacrifice it.

However, the effects of the alcohol were such that, once the violent act was over, he fell asleep on top of the animal's body.

The event, as unusual as it was disturbing, sparked a swift reaction among users following the official profile.

"Sleepy slaughterhouse worker gets caught by the 220," the original text humorously stated, paraphrasing an old popular saying.

The image of a slaughterer sleeping on the freshly sacrificed animal - as described - was striking both for the grotesque nature of the scene and for the harshness of the act.

Some comments highlighted the justice of the moment: "He had to pay for his crimes. I can’t imagine how many families he must have affected throughout his criminal career."

The mocking tone of some publications has been questioned by those who believe that the situation should not be trivialized.

A user complained: "Animal abuse is not a joking matter. Those who find amusement in such things should take a good look at themselves."
