A 64-year-old man identified as Alfonso Watt Bueno, whose nationality has not been disclosed, was arrested for attempting to murder his ex-girlfriend in an incident that took place in a fishing area west of Miami.

The attack, which left the victim in critical condition, was witnessed by several bystanders and ended with a confession from the aggressor following his arrest by the police.

On the morning of last Friday, shortly before 9:00 a.m., agents from the Miami Police Department responded to an emergency call reporting a woman stabbed in the 7000 block of West Flagler Street, according to the local press.

The victim was found with a stab wound in the shoulder and transported in critical condition by Miami firefighters to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The cause: A missing chain

According to the victim's statement, collected by the police in a recorded interview at the hospital, her assailant confronted her that same day about a chain that he had given her the previous week and that had supposedly gone missing.

"Before I could respond, he stabbed me," the woman would have said in a weak voice from her hospital bed, according to the police report.

He stated that after the aggression, he doesn't remember anything else.

Witnesses and first aid

One of the witnesses who was fishing nearby told the authorities that he heard a woman scream. As he approached, he saw Watt Bueno walking away to the south, carrying a bicycle.

When asked why he was leaving, the man replied: “I’ll see you later.”

Shortly afterward, the witness found the victim bleeding profusely, while a second man was trying to help by applying pressure to the wound.

This assistant fled before the police arrived, explaining that he had a "pending arrest warrant," according to the report.

A third witness poured water on the woman and gave her gentle taps in an attempt to keep her conscious.

At that moment, the victim managed to whisper: “Alfonso stabbed me.”

The woman -whose identity has not been revealed- clarified to the authorities that she had known Watt Bueno for about two years, but that they were not in a romantic relationship at the time of the attack and had not lived together in the past.

Identification and arrest

Based on the statements, the police showed a series of photographs to the witnesses.

Both identified Alfonso Watt Bueno as the aggressor without hesitation. The victim, for her part, also recognized him upon seeing his image in the hospital and repeated, "Alfonso stabbed me."

On Sunday, the Domestic Violence Enforcement Team of the Miami Police Department located and arrested Watt Bueno.

During the interrogation, which he attended without the presence of a lawyer after receiving a reading of his rights in Spanish, the accused confessed to the crime, although the details of his statement were not made public.

Watt Bueno was admitted to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center (TGK), accused of attempted murder with serious injury. According to jail records, he already had two prior convictions for assault.

At the time of the report, his bail had not yet been set.
