After the horrific crime of an elderly man in his home in Holguín came to light, shocking the eastern city, the Facebook page "Realidades desde Holguín," linked to the police, revealed new details about the case.

Ángel Ramírez, 73 years old, was brutally murdered inside his home in the Vista Alegre neighborhood on July 19th.

The person responsible, identified as Carlos Alberto Cuello Pérez (Polo), was arrested a few hours later.

Although a close relative initially stated that the motive was theft, as Polo took a Cuban bicycle, a gas tank, and a Redmi cell phone, the new publication claims there was a personal motivation.

"An elderly man lost his life in his home at the hands of Carlos Cuello Pérez due to personal and passionate issues," the text stated.

According to what was said, the bicycle and the phone were recovered from the stolen items.

"The author of such a sordid act is under investigation," the text adds.

Although the author of the post stated that there is no tolerance from the law for murder, many fear that the punishment will not be exemplary, given the widespread perception of a lenient or inconsistent justice system relative to the severity of the crimes.

According to the officialist profile "Reporte Cuba Ya," Cuello Pérez reportedly broke into Ramírez's home around 7:00 PM while he was cooking.

After breaking in forcefully, he brutally assaulted him: he struck him in the face until he lost consciousness, broke his nose, and ultimately suffocated him, bringing an end to his life.

The individual attempted to quickly sell the stolen items, which was detrimental to him, as the mother of a young man who bought the stolen bicycle immediately alerted the authorities.

His arrest took place four hours after the crime: he was found hiding under a bed in his own home, located in the same neighborhood where the victim lived.

A shocked community

Ángel Ramírez would have turned 74 years old just two days after being murdered. He was a man very beloved in his community.

A close relative, who requested to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals, described him as a "good father, friend, grandfather, uncle, brother, unconditional son," and shared images of the elderly man with children and loved ones.

"Let them see the face of that degenerate," demanded the complainant, who sought justice not only for the victim but also to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.

His call was supported by hundreds of comments on social media, where citizens from various parts of the country have firmly condemned the unleashed violence and the apparent impunity.

"What kind of wretched monster... this country needs a Bukele," wrote a mother.

"What a pain to see what Cuba has become! To be killed for a gas canister and a phone. A young person who prefers to kill an elder rather than stand up against those who oppress him, so cowardly," said an emigrant.

The killer of Ángel Ramírez is currently undergoing legal proceedings. However, in the Vista Alegre neighborhood and across the country, the people are demanding truth, justice, and real security guarantees, especially for the most vulnerable sectors like the elderly.

The death of the elder not only leaves a void in his family but also reopens a deep wound in a society battered by crisis, violence, and disillusionment.
