"For those in Miami saying that Jorge Losada Moreno has passed away, I want to clarify that he is in great health. Stop spreading false news. Losada is doing very well."
With these words, the art director of the Cuban Institute of Art and Cinematographic Industry (ICAIC) Luis Lacosta took to Facebook this Tuesday to deny the false news that circulated on social media regarding the supposed death of Cuban actor Jorge Losada, aged 91.
In the post, accompanied by a recent image of the artist giving a thumbs up in a sign of encouragement, Lacosta urged to stop the rumors and respect the recovery of the veteran performer.
Months earlier, Lacosta himself and profiles like Actuar Cuba Artes Escénicas also had to debunk another rumor of this kind, and there was a call to act responsibly to avoid causing unnecessary distress or affecting the peace of the artist and their loved ones.
Even a user identified as Alexander, a property manager, claimed to have spoken with Losada over the phone at that time: “You’re still going to cause trouble, because Losada is here for a long time”, he wrote on his social media, joining the denials with a message of support and affection.
However, the actor is facing a fragile health situation that has required multiple gestures of solidarity from the Cuban community, both on the island and abroad.
In recent months, Losada has needed campaigns to collect food, financial donations, blood, and a shower chair, an essential item for his daily care, due to the inability of his caregivers to assist him without the appropriate equipment.
The urgent call to get him the chair was spread by Lacosta and producer Michel Vega, but the one who managed to mobilize the community was the influencer and former boxer Lino Tomasén, known as The Iron Man.
In less than 24 hours, thanks to a donation organized by José from Destiny Travel, and humorously shared by Limay Blanco, the chair was delivered to Losada.
“This brand-new little chair is yours, Dad,” Tomasén said excitedly in a video. Days earlier, he had also given him money and groceries, and he had called for donations: “Remember that at some point you asked God to be where you are. It’s time to show it by giving just one dollar.”
In 2024, Jorge Losada had already been hospitalized due to complications with a hip prosthesis, and earlier, in 2021, he underwent surgery that caused him severe anemia, with no access to medications in Cuba. Each incident has sparked campaigns on social media due to the lack of institutional response.
Losada, who last appeared on television in 2023 in the soap opera Renacer, has devoted his life to enriching Cuban culture.
