The family of Julia Amaya Hernández, a 61-year-old woman, is living hours of anguish after her disappearance this Saturday in Havana.

According to a report on social media by her daughter-in-law Lisaymi Hernández, the woman escaped from the psychiatric ward of the Julio Trigo hospital in Arroyo Naranjo, and her whereabouts are currently unknown.

Julia was wearing a white sweater, denim shorts, and black sandals, and she had a small pinch in her hair at the time of her disappearance, Hernández wrote in the group Facebook “Missing or Lost Persons in Havana.”

Her family shared several contact numbers to receive any information that may help in the search: 54971291, 59276396, and 59276491.

In the midst of despair, activist and independent journalist Marta María Ramírez called for the activation of the hashtag #AlertaYeniset, which aims to raise awareness of cases of missing women in Cuba and to pressure authorities to take responsibility.

Ramírez emphasized the need to file a formal complaint with the police and reminded that, since the incident occurred under state custody, the hospital is obligated to assist the family in their search.

"Upon a report of women going missing, we as citizens can activate our alerts (...) and demand that institutions do their job," the activist reiterated.

The case of Julia Amaya is added to a series of disappearances reported in recent weeks on the island, where families and communities have been forced to organize searches on their own due to the lack of official protocols.

At the beginning of August, an elderly man missing in Sabanilla, Matanzas, was found alive after five days of community search, while another 91-year-old man in Ciénaga de Zapata remains missing after a week without medication or food.

Each new case rekindles social concern and citizen denunciation in the face of the absence of effective state channels, which leaves families in total vulnerability, forcing them to rely on the solidarity of neighbors and social networks to spread alerts and maintain hope.
