The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX) of Cuba announced this Tuesday that the Red Cross of Vietnam raised over 13 million dollars to support the island, a figure five times higher than the initial goal, which was set at 65 billion dongs (about 2.5 million USD).

In an informative note published on its website, the regime's organization stated that in total, more than 1.7 million contributions have been received from Vietnamese citizens and institutions.

Among the recent contributions stands out the Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Hospital, inaugurated in 1981 in Quang Binh as part of the donations made by Fidel Castro following his visit in 1973.

As part of the campaign, the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) also urged its staff to join the initiative "65 Years of Vietnam-Cuba Solidarity," as part of the anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the so-called Year of Friendship.

Historical solidarity and political propaganda

Vietnamese authorities recalled the famous phrase of the late dictator Fidel Castro: "For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to give even its own blood!" as a symbol of bilateral loyalty.

However, while acts of brotherhood are being promoted in Hanoi and other cities, Cuba continues to face a health, economic, and social crisis that the regime is attempting to mask with gestures of international support.

The campaign, which will run until October 16, reflects the strength of diplomatic ties between both countries, but it also highlights how the Cuban regime clings to the narrative of international solidarity, despite the fact that millions of people on the island are facing extreme poverty, collapsed hospitals, and a constantly deteriorating quality of life.

On August 15, it was reported that citizens, companies, and public institutions in Vietnam had donated more than $4.8 million in just 48 hours, at the launch of the official campaign to support the Cuban regime, according to the state newspaper Vietnam News.
