A Cuban resident in Ecuador suffered a serious accident after falling from the fourth floor, which resulted in multiple fractures and severe injuries that require a complex rehabilitation process.
According to Chanay Pinero, cousin of the victim, the young woman’s name is Iliana López Ruíz, she is 35 years old and is a mother to a two-year-old boy.
Her family elaborated on the tragedy in a GoFundMe campaign: Iliana has open fractures of the femur and humerus, in addition to injuries to the hip, radius, facial bones, the eye socket, and the skull, along with an elbow dislocation. The causes and location of the fall are still unknown.
Currently, she remains bedridden, unable to move by herself, and requires several urgent surgeries, medications, and a lengthy rehabilitation process.
In light of the magnitude of medical and surgical expenses that exceed the family's financial capabilities, their relatives have initiated a fundraising campaign with the goal of raising 15,000 dollars to cover surgeries, postoperative treatments, and rehabilitation therapies.
“Iliana is an tireless worker and, above all, an exceptional mother of a baby only 2 years old. Our greatest wish is for her to be able to walk again and hug her little son,” said her cousin, who is promoting the solidarity campaign.
The accident has deeply moved the Cuban community in Ecuador and in exile, which has rallied to spread the campaign and gather contributions to save the life and future of the young mother.
So far, the amount raised has reached 2,414 dollars.
"Any contribution, no matter the amount, will be a ray of hope in this very difficult time. And if you can't donate, we sincerely ask you to share this campaign with your family and friends," implored Iliana's cousin.
Families often turn to fundraising campaigns on platforms like GoFundMe to cover funeral expenses.
These campaigns are supported by the Cuban community and other caring individuals who understand the financial burden associated with this type of care.
The family of the young woman from Cienfuegos, Yasira Marín also turned to this platform to seek assistance in covering the funeral expenses following her sudden death in a traffic accident in the United States, a tragedy that left her young child orphaned.
Although the authorities have not yet confirmed the details of the incident, those close to the young woman assert that Yasira was riding a motorcycle when she was struck by a postal truck.
To cover the funeral expenses, her sister Anasleidy Marín organized a campaign on GoFundMe that has already raised over $5,000 of a $5,500 goal.
