Cuban authorities are investigating a serious incident that occurred in Santiago de Cuba following the discovery of a human head in a garbage collector in Micro 3, at the Abel Santamaría Urban Center.
The report was published this Tuesday on the official profile Héroes del Moncada, which described the incident as "serious" and noted that forces from the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) are already taking action at the site.
"We learned that at this moment, MININT forces are investigating a serious incident, following the discovery of a man’s head in a garbage collector," the publication reported on its Facebook account, without providing further details about the victim or the circumstances of the incident.
The regime's spokesman announced that they would likely release more details.
Earlier, the Santiago journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada reported on social media that "there is a significant police presence in Reparto Salao, Micro 3 in Santiago de Cuba."
The incident was also confirmed by multiple comments from internet users on social media. Irlys González stated that the head was found in a container near Chopin and the gas station; while Claudia Hechavarría claimed it was next to the MLC store of Micro 3.
For her part, Yucnisleidys Melanys Argüelles Ortiz warned that there is a neighbor in the area who has been missing for five days, which heightened the alarm.
“Well, I just passed by there and they say they found a man's head in a trash can. My God, how long will this go on,” wrote YohaMaría BJ. Along the same lines, Ania Pelinegra commented: “They found a man's head…”, suggesting that it could be a male victim.
The discovery of human remains in public spaces has previously raised concern among Cubans. In 2024, for instance, several social media posts reported on human remains floating in the waters of the Malecón in Havana.
A user posted a video on Facebook that showed a large gathering of people around the site of the discovery, along with the presence of fire trucks, ambulances, and police vehicles attending to the scene.
That same year, a new case was reported on the outskirts of Placetas, where black bags filled with human bones were found in a rural area, alongside what appeared to be a charred skull.
Witnesses described the scene as harrowing, and authorities launched an investigation to determine the origin of the remains.
More recently, residents of Las Tunas reported the presence of human skulls scattered in the street, right next to the local cemetery.
The images shared on social media showed the remains visible to passersby, without any type of protection, which heightened the outrage and complaints about the neglected state of the cemeteries.
