A young worker from the Electric Company of Cuba suffered a severe electric shock while repairing a fault on Pepe Prieto street, in the San Miguel del Padrón municipality of Havana.

According to reports on the Facebook profile of La Tijera and confirmed by neighbors in the comments, the accident left the worker convulsing and vomiting, as reported by witnesses present at the scene.

The most alarming issue, residents report, was the immediate absence of firefighters, whom they called without receiving a response.

In the face of despair, it was the residents themselves who risked their lives to bring him down from the pole and transport him in a private car to the nearest hospital, managing to save him.

The worker had requested his resignation for over three months, a request that the entity denied, citing "lack of staff to cover his position," according to reports by La Tijera.

This denial kept him in a high-risk job, without support or adequate safety conditions.

Only after a long wait did the colleagues from the Electric Company arrive, who, according to the authorities, should have been the first to respond and then coordinate with the Rescue and Salvage teams. The delay once again highlighted the inefficiency of the emergency response protocols on the island.

The case has generated outrage in the community, which sees in this episode the precariousness of the system and the lack of protection for both workers and citizens.

The accident, which could have turned into a tragedy, once again exposes the institutional indifference and the neglect of those who uphold a collapsing electrical system.

The young man's life is still in danger, and his health condition is a cause for concern. Neighbors and family members are asking for prayers for his recovery, while demanding accountability for an incident they believe could have been prevented.

So far, the authorities have not commented on the matter.

Just a year ago, another young lineman from the Electric Company of Havana died after being electrocuted while working on a pole in Punta Brava, La Lisa.

The incident occurred on 28th Street, between 251 and 253. A local resident, who witnessed the events, captured images showing the young man, identified as Pedrito, hanging unconscious among the high voltage wires.

The emergency unfolded after the community reported a malfunction in a transformer around 2 PM. However, the utility workers did not arrive until 10 PM.

The young man was rescued by the firefighters and taken to a clinic, but he died shortly after due to the severity of his injuries.
