A tragic accident occurred on Saturday morning in the town of Las Mangas, about seven kilometers from the municipality of Artemisa, claiming the life of a 16-year-old teenager identified as Darían, who was a resident of the rice drying facility.
The young man was riding a motorcycle when he was struck by a car that, according to testimonies on social media, was traveling at high speed.
The news was confirmed by the user Alexander Ríos Cruz on Facebook, where he confirmed that the boy did not survive the crash.
From that point on, testimonies from neighbors and individuals present at the scene began to shed more light on the circumstances of the tragic event.
Excessive speeding and reckless driving
According to several comments on the post, the car involved was known to speed through that area, where there is also a primary school on the Central Highway.
"Everyone knows that the car isn't from around here, but it always speeds down this road," said a user who agreed.
In the accident, which occurred at 5:00 am, the car not only ran over the teenager but also destroyed part of a house where a family was sleeping.
A self-employed worker added that from the point of impact to where the vehicle came to rest (embedded in the house), there is more than 70 meters of distance.
A woman from Artemisa provided a harrowing testimony. According to her, the car literally drove through the wall of the house.
"Look at how fast the car was going; it knocked down a wall and a window, and by a miracle, nothing happened to the boys who were sleeping in that room. The window fell on them, and still, the car took away the lid of the pit that was next to it," he detailed.
On the other hand, a witness reported that the occupants of the car fled the scene without offering assistance: "You only have to look at what that car did to know how fast it was going."
Anderson Fernández, a relative of the residents of the affected house, reaffirmed this fact: "My parents and my sister experienced it firsthand and saw how they ran out like rats. Four more women came down, and everyone fled."
The deceased, Darían, was 16 or 17 years old. His young age also sparked a debate about parental responsibility in allowing minors to ride motorcycles.
"Parents, children underage should not be allowed to ride motorcycles. Until after the age of 18, one does not have a license, nor the maturity, nor the understanding of danger," warned a taxi driver.
However, several neighbors recalled that, regardless of the fact that the young man should not have been driving, it was he who paid with his life for the speeding and irresponsibility of the person behind the wheel.
"In the end, it was the poor young man, no matter how fast he had come, who lost his life," wrote a user.
"Imagine how fast that car must have been going to knock down the wall of the room in the house of the lathe operator," commented a resident from Miami, outraged by what had happened.
The tragic incident leaves sorrow in the young man's family and alarm in the community, which demands greater traffic control and harsher penalties for those who turn the streets into racetracks, endangering the lives of innocent people.
